Self-Esteem Therapy in Calgary

Low self-esteem in men:

Are you struggling?

Feeling Like You’re Never Enough? In your personal life, at work, in your relationships — you constantly feel like you’re falling short — no matter what you achieve.

Burdened by Negative Self-Talk? You are stuck in a loop of thoughts like “I’m a failure,” “I’m not good enough,” or “I don’t deserve success”.

Struggling with Self-Doubt? You find yourself second-guessing every decision, plagued by the feeling that you’re an “imposter” who’s always making mistakes.

Caught in the Trap of People-Pleasing? You constantly putting others’ needs above your own, like your own desires and opinions don’t matter.

Questioning Your Worth? You doubt who you are, and feel lost about your life’s direction, like you’re just spinning your wheels and going nowhere.

If you can relate to any of this, you’re in the right place.

Low self-esteem in men:

When self-doubt steals your sense of security

Battling the inner critic

It feels like there’s always a voice in your head putting you down, telling you that you should “do more”, “be more”, “have more”… It’s like you’re constantly under a microscope, with every move and decision you make being harshly judged — by yourself.

The pressure to perform

In today’s world, it’s easy to get caught up in trying to look more confident or successful than you feel. But behind that façade, you’re struggling to believe in your own worth. Pretending to be someone you’re not is exhausting and the pressure never stops being unbearable.

How do you know?

What low self-esteem looks like for men:

HARSH SELF-JUDGMENT:

You find fault in everything you do and struggle to give yourself any credit.

FEELING INVISIBLE IN A CROWD:

Even when you’re around others, there’s a sense of isolation, like you don’t quite fit in.

WEARING THE MASK:

You put on a brave face, but inside, the struggle with self-respect is real.

SELF-NEGLECT:

You ignore your own needs and always put others first, as if you don’t matter.

AVOIDING RISKS DUE TO FEAR OF FAILURE:

You shy away from challenges because you’re convinced you’ll mess up.

AVOIDING YOUR REFLECTION:

You struggle to face the man in the mirror, burdened by the critical voice in your head.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How does men’s self-esteem counselling work?

Many guys have been dealing with self-esteem issues since childhood, and it can be tough to shake that feeling on your own. That’s where a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor (RTC) like us Therapy For Dudes comes in.

Left unchecked, low self-esteem can lead to bigger mental health problems and, in severe cases, even self-harm. But here’s the good news: improving your self-esteem doesn’t just make you feel better about yourself—it can also transform your relationships.

What are the signs that I have low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem isn’t a mental illness, but it can mess with your head in ways that affect your thoughts, feelings, and behaviour. Sometimes, it’s obvious—like constantly putting yourself down. Other times, it’s more subtle, like always going out of your way to make others happy at the expense of your own needs.

Either way, if you’re feeling like you don’t measure up or lack personal worth, it’s time to take a closer look.

Is self-esteem counselling just about feeling better, or will it help me in other areas of life too?

Improving your self-esteem can have a ripple effect. Not only will you feel better about yourself, but you’ll also notice improvements in your relationships, work, and overall well-being.

Are sessions online or in-person?

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies based on individual needs. We typically recommend 8-12 sessions to start, with the flexibility to adjust as needed. This is because we want to help you make real progress.

Your first couple of sessions will help you feel comfortable and get ready to start digging deeper. Occasionally they may bring up things you weren’t even aware of before, which can cause challenges for you.

The remaining sessions are designed around finding solutions, and helping you experience lasting change, which often takes an investment of time and energy.

What can I expect in my first counselling session?

The intake session includes a review of your intake documents, exploration of your history, and a personalized action plan outlining your therapy goals.

What are your hours?

Appointments are available Monday to Friday from 9-7 pm MST and Saturdays from 9-5 pm MST. Please book a Discovery Call to schedule a session. Book Now.

Is everything discussed in sessions confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is a priority, with a few exceptions, such as when someone’s life is in danger or in cases of abuse, by federal or provincial subpoena or if you want information shared with you someone else like your doctor.
